More often than not, money is not lost, players accidentally click the "Accelerate Production" or "Buy More Resources" button and use the cash in this way. Unfortunately, it is impossible to cancel the acceleration or resources bought with money.
Note that in the game settings, you can enable the "Confirmation of spending money" function. By default, this feature is turned off.
